Does Rooney need support?

Posted by: Mike England Po..., Mon 11th Feb 2008
On our post Swiss game podcast Gaz, Warren and I briefly touched on the issue of Wayne Rooney's position in the team. So how will Capello get the best out of Rooney? For me I think playing as part of a front three will bring out the best in him, he's not a prolific goal scorer for England anyway so I don't think we lose anything playing at the front of the attacking three as his creativity and strength will create openings for others. With a bit of time the players will hopefully adapt to Capello's system but the early signs for me were positive. Let us know what you think and will air a few views on the next podcast. Cheers, Mike.

Amazingly enough I actually
Amazingly enough I actually agree with Mike!! I think playing Rooney in a central role of 3 forwards is the only role for him in Capello's england team. (Not necessarily what will get the best out of Rooney as I think he would prefer to have someone up there with him.) He should be made to compete for that one spot with Crouch and Owen. Then you have a choice of lennon, swp, bentley on the right of rooney and joe cole or ashley young on the left of the him. Nice selection headache and I think at last in Capello we have a manager who will pick players to play the system not necessarily the most high profile players. Gareth England Podjockey
