Myers mulls over the daily rumours and rumblings
If there is one thing that tickled me this morning then it is
the thought of a 16yr old suggesting that he needs to leave Crystal Palace, as
playing for the highly experienced Neil Warnock's style doesn't suit him. You got
to hand it to John Bostock, he obviously doesn't lack confidence and you would
have loved to be a fly in the wall of Warnock's office when he was told the
news.
There is no doubt the likely capture of Bostock is a major coup for Spurs as the player has bags of potential. It will be the first time since Owen Price that Spurs have taken advantage of the ruling for 16yr olds and are likely to get him for close to nothing when it goes to an eventual tribunal. Crystal Palace can hope for a region of £5m but in truth it always tended to be a mere fraction of that.
So should John Bostock join the ranks at White Hart Lane he will be the latest of a series of supposed wonder kids, who have joined the club in the past few years, and you do wonder whether he will be the first to break the mould and make an impact. Devitte, Taarabt, Pekhart and Danny Rose have all previously joined the club with big reputations and yet neither has made any significant strides in the first team, let alone the squad. Is this down to their ability or is it merely club policy?
It has been a real mystery as to why none of them were given an opportunity in the last few weeks of the season, especially Rose who has been superb in reserve outings and you also wonder why Spurs have been reluctant to send them out on loan to gain valuable first team experience - are Spurs merely being overprotective?
So how do Spurs fans feel about the imminent arrival of Bostock? Is it a positive move and a real sign of intent for the future? Do you feel that Spurs should maybe change tact and start blooding their youngsters a lot sooner? Will Bostock be the the first to succeed where the other supposed wonderkids have failed?
