Man
United have their sights set of Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov
after Sir Alex Ferguson publically declared interest in the striker who scored
23 goals for Spurs last season. However, is Ferguson now practicing the very
same lack of transfer etiquette that has infuriated him in his dealings with
Real Madrid?
Ramos has been bracing himself for a bid of this magnitude after offering coy answers to questions regarding the Bulgarian's future all summer. With Milan and Barca, who have both been linked with Berbatov, spending big it is unlikely that United face any real opposition in their quest to sign the out-and-out striker they have been missing since Ruud Van Nistelrooy's departure to Madrid.
The real question that needs answering here, however, is the matter relating to Ferguson's double standards regarding transfer conduct.
"We have made Tottenham an offer on Berbatov and we have good expectations that this deal will go through," Ferguson told The Sun.
"Berbatov has been impressive during a long time and would be a great addition to our attack."
So why can Man United publically declare their interest in other team's players, yet when the same happens to one of their own they report the matter to FIFA? Is this just a case of double standards when it comes to the biggest clubs in the game? It is second time in weeks that Spurs have been on the wrong end of a public declaration and you certainly wonder whether the club will be looking to lodge a complaint; it is getting beyond a joke.
Ramos has been bracing himself for a bid of this magnitude after offering coy answers to questions regarding the Bulgarian's future all summer. If Ferguson does get his man, should Spurs be holding out for more than the £22m reportedly offered, or should the Spurs board cash in and move on?
