Should both Aston Villa and Spurs be looking for second helpings?

Football FanCast reporter Freddie Myers mulls over the latest rumours and rumblings

Having followed and reported on football for many years I don't think I have known a situation like Peter Crouch has, where no fewer than three of his former clubs are all looking for second helpings from the beanpole striker.

Spurs, Aston Villa and Portsmouth who all once seemed him surplus to requirements, at some stage of his career, are all strongly linked to bring the vastly underrated player back as all three clubs all look to make a push for the top five, next season.

History shows that players or managers who go back to a club for a second stint should always give it something of a wide berth, so not to tarnish their reputation however in Peter Crouch we have the most bizarre of situations. He never set the world alight so past furores will all be forgotten whatever colours he steps out in next season.

Rafa Benitez deserves a great amount of credit in lifting this shy unassuming footballer and turning him into an International striker who on his day can be simply unplayable. He offers an embarrassment of options given his physique and to be honest there are few strikers who possess a better first touch in the game. He provides an excellent foil for any striker and whether it would be alongside Agbonlahor, Defoe or a Robbie Keane; should Berbatov depart, he certainly won't let the club down and will be a huge asset.

So how do the respective fans feel about the club given one of their former players a second chance to succeed? Would Crouch be a welcome addition? Where do you hope Abby Clancy's significant other will be playing his football next season?

Villa will be the best move
Villa will be the best move for him especially given the set piece quality that the likes of Young can provide.

Villa best given set piece
Villa best given set piece quality.....Crouch is crap in the air but has a good touch.....best suited to the team that plays balls to feet....and that aint Villa

Crouchie is a good player.
Crouchie is a good player. Not quite Liverpool quality and that is why Rafa is giving him the elbow. Would suit a team like Villa well - straight swop for Barry.

Yeah, Crouchie would do good
Yeah, Crouchie would do good at a team like Villa or pompey. Has done some good things for us at Liverpool but not quite the player we expect at Anfield. Can't compare to Torres. Like the idea of a swop for Barry.

I'd like to see him come to
I'd like to see him come to Spurs and do the robot dance at the Christmas party, after that, it'd be nice to see him turned out on his ear by the bouncers. As for him actually being back on the playing staff, I'd be desperately upset. Perhaps we could snap up Stephen Clemence, Simon Davies and really turn back time with Ruel Fox. This has to be shullbit.

Col8 You're a prat - end of
Col8 You're a prat - end of story - Crouch is not only an international class striker now whose better than ANYONE Villa have upfront as he scores far more goals than any of them - He's also worth MORE than Barry as England's main goalscorer for the past 3 years - As to Barry? Not a patch on Alonso and worth 13 million at the most - English players are ALWAYS overhyped and believe me - Barry Could not lace the boots of Gerrard, Alonso OR Macscherano who already man our midfield very well thanks - Take Barry and choke on him - We'll get him for free anyway on a Bosman next summer or when he buys out his contract anyway; In the meantime? Do try and finish within 10 points of us this time (not last seasons pathetic 19 difference) BEFORE you dare speak of challenging us - never mind overtaking us. Villa to overtake us - you must be joking, that's at least as funny as anything Jasper Carrot's ever come up with and about as believeable to............
