Myers mulls over the latest rumours and rumblings
Having followed and reported on football for many years I don't
think I have known a situation like Peter Crouch has, where no fewer than three
of his former clubs are all looking for second helpings from the beanpole
striker.
Spurs, Aston Villa and Portsmouth who all once seemed him surplus to requirements, at some stage of his career, are all strongly linked to bring the vastly underrated player back as all three clubs all look to make a push for the top five, next season.
History shows that players or managers who go back to a club for a second stint should always give it something of a wide berth, so not to tarnish their reputation however in Peter Crouch we have the most bizarre of situations. He never set the world alight so past furores will all be forgotten whatever colours he steps out in next season.
Rafa Benitez deserves a great amount of credit in lifting this shy unassuming footballer and turning him into an International striker who on his day can be simply unplayable. He offers an embarrassment of options given his physique and to be honest there are few strikers who possess a better first touch in the game. He provides an excellent foil for any striker and whether it would be alongside Agbonlahor, Defoe or a Robbie Keane; should Berbatov depart, he certainly won't let the club down and will be a huge asset.
So how do the respective fans feel about the club given one of their former players a second chance to succeed? Would Crouch be a welcome addition? Where do you hope Abby Clancy's significant other will be playing his football next season?
