Should Arsenal boss drop French and take on Spanish?

Football FanCast reporter Freddie Myers mulls over the daily rumours and rumblings

Can someone please tell me what the deal is with Samir Nasri - is he signing or is he not? There is so little transparency with regards to this transfer that it does make you wonder if Arsenal are about to be gazumped at the last knockings - I mean it certainly wouldn't be the first time a club has been used by a player to broker a move elsewhere.

There is no question that the Marseille star will be a fabulous addition to the Emirates, but there must come a time that even the most patient of men like Wenger says enough is enough and move on. If the player had a true desire to join the football club then surely it would have been done and dusted by now; given that Marseille have given Nasri freedom to leave. It may just me being overly sceptical, but I have seen it all before.

If the Nasri transfer does fail to materialise then there are plenty alternatives out on the market. One such player is David Silva; a player of immense ability and has the flexibility to play a variety of roles and who according to the Sun this morning are looking closely at the player, as a possible replacement for Barca bound Alexander Hleb or dare I say an alternative if the Nasri deal falls through.

Personally I feel it would be an excellent signing for Arsenal as the Spaniard would give Wenger an embarrassment of options. Like Nasri he can simply play anywhere across the midfield or play in the hole behind a front man. I have been hugely impressed with him in the Euro Championships and intrigued to see how well he links up with both Cesc and of course another reported Arsenal target David Villa. It does make you wonder if Adebayor does move on to Barca, whether Wenger should look to produce a double raid on Valencia.

So what do Arsenal fans think about the whole Nasri deal - is there reason for concern? Would David Silva be an excellent alternative or should Arsenal look to bring in both?

Good shout, there is more to this deal that meets the eye and it looks like we are being played somewhat. Silva is a good player and I would love to see him at the club, espeically if Villa comes as well.

Both good players and could fit in the same team, doubt the funds will stretch that far.

I think Silva is the much better player and has the physical presence required for the Premier League.

The physical presence of being all of 5'8" tall?! Even with this in mind, I would rather sign Silva than Villa, we dont need another striker, we do need another winger, particularly with Hleb looking to leave and Rosick-note apparently set to now miss the start of the season!

I think wenger should sell
I think wenger should sell ade for £30m, sell hleb for £15m and bring in villa ( est £20m ), silva ( est £17m ) and nasri ( est £15m ) this would be an excellent transformation to our squad and im sure the sighnin of the spanish duo would impress fabregas who dont forget mentioned he'd love to link up with the spanish forward villa... could that be a start of another connection?? never mind the french connection ( henry, viera, pires) this is a new generation.... the spanish connection :)

One begins to wonder if Nasri is worth all the trouble he seems to be giving the club. And his agent is difficult. Might Silva or Arshavin do better, as back-up for Rosicky rather than as a replacement for Hleb?

i dont think we have
i dont think we have anything to worry about nasri.....yet, it does seem like if he really wanted to join he would have already but there maybe somthing i dont know wich is the reason, but i think its safe till at least next summer, and as far as david silva and david villa, i think it would be fantastic to see both those players at arsenal, tbh i'd prefer that to hleb and ade, but i dont thiink it'll happen sadly, but time will tell....
