Myers mulls over the latest rumours and rumblings
If you are guaranteed one thing as a Spurs fan then it is to
expect the highs and some painful lows. The football club doesn't function, any
other way and just when you feel that they are on the cusp of something magical,
they are brought down to earth with one hell of a bang.
Of course nothing is guaranteed and rumours that Robbie Keane is interested in a move to Liverpool are yet to be confirmed, but the silence from both sides doesn't exactly paint the most positives of pictures and you do fear that there is a chance that Spurs' talisman could well be on the move to Merseyside.
Robbie Keane is a Spurs legend, in the eyes of supporters, and rightly so. There is no player that works as hard or shares the same passion and commitment that he gives on a weekly basis for that football club. He can single handily carry that team and the thought of him leaving, as well as the likely departure of Berbatov must be considered footballing suicide.
In all honesty I am bemused by the whole situation. Robbie Keane recently signed a new contract, which comes as something of light relief given the implications of a possible Webster ruling and has always expressed his great love and desire for the football club. Whether it is this wish to play for his boyhood heroes that has turned the scales, we are yet to know, but it would certainly leave the club stuck between a rock and a hard place.
The Spaniard is rebuilding this football club and has made huge progress with his recent signings, but I'm sure the thought of having to bring in a new strike force hadn't occurred to Juande Ramos.
So what kind of price do you put on Robbie Keane, given his worth to the football club? How do you value 40+ goals and just as many assists in the past two seasons? Early reports that Liverpool have tested the water reported £5m + Crouch I find somewhat insulting.
On a personal note I for one hope that this just all proves speculation and that Keane will be playing his football at White Hart Lane next season. I can't imagine the life of me that Spurs would be prepared to sell him and any such transfer would be down to the player's own desire. Time will tell and we wait and hope that we get some transparency on the proceedings; one thing is for sure, the club mustn't sell themselves short.
