Newcastle United are considering re-signing Stephen Carr just four months after releasing the former Republic of Ireland defender.

Carr, 32, was handed a free transfer by former Magpies boss Kevin Keegan at the end of last season.

A Nigerian consortium has revealed that it has made a bid to buy Newcastle United.

Reports suggested that the consortium - one of several interested in buying the Magpies - had around £350million to spend, but they have not disclosed the size of the bid.
