Football FanCast columnist Rob Facey thinks that Spurs' hunt for a striker would be made a lot easier once they get some decision from the player as to where his future will lie.

Gus Poyet, the Tottenham assistant manager, may still be trying to convince the fans that the club can hold onto their Bulgarian superstar, but the writing seems to be on the wall for Berbatov's Spurs career.

"Hand on heart, I don't know what is going to happen with Berba," Poyet told The Guardian.

"People have to understand that we want Berba at the club and, if he stays, it will be phenomenal. But if he goes, we will need a replacement.

"We will have to wait. At the moment there have been no offers."

Though selling the striker would upset many of the White Hart Lane faithful, an effective use of the cash would appease them, especially if they are able to bring in a world class replacement.

However, Cruzeiro has made public the fact that Spurs are chasing their Bolivian striker Marcelo Moreno, but have stated that "the proposal was well short of what we expected."

This means that Spurs' summer plans are totally dependent on Berbatov's future and it is ludicrous that they still hold any hope on retaining the striker who is in danger of ruining what could be a great season of improvement for the North Londoners.

The longer he stays the more it looks like he is bleeding the club dry, wasting valuable resources on a player who has not come out and stated his intended plans for the future. Is it not time that Spurs put their foot down and set a deadline for the player to make a decision? How can Ramos possibly expect to begin his rebuild with all this uncertainty? If David Villa and Samuel Eto'o are reported targets, then there certainly won't be a shortage of takers, so Spurs need to get in their early.

As a neutral looking in I find it incredible that this situation is occurring. One player is not bigger than a football club and is it not time, that Spurs flexed their muscles in order to get a decision from the Bulgarian?

My sentiments exactly. Weve
My sentiments exactly. Weve given Berba what he wanted over the past 2 years and its about time we go hardline with him. Are you staying or going? If your going then fine well sell you to the highest bidder (preferably outside the EPL), if your staying then put pen to paper on a new contract and end the speculation this summer. At least then we know that the funds to bring in Etoo wont be there but Berba will be with us so no major blow. The club need to know now is he going or is he staying becaus hes causing so many problems for the whole club from the board to the management to the supporters.

It has become a running soap
It has become a running soap opera and I feel that a decision has to be made. Berbatov is a wonderful footballers but he always seems to hold the cards and is leaving us in limbo. If he wanted to stay there wouldnt be specualation so we must get rid.

One player as you say is not
One player as you say is not bigger than the club and we should not offer him anytime and ship him out. The way it is being handled is a disgrace and we don't deserve it. We need the players that will give 100% for the club.

I say sell, we have not had
I say sell, we have not had anything from Berbatov on the pitch since the cup final, Sell him to who ever can fork out 25+million and buy someone who will play for the team week in week out, not just 1 in 5 games as Berbatov seem's to do.

I don't understand why Gus
I don't understand why Gus is so confused, Ramos has already said that Berb has made a decision and that he can't change his mind..... It could be that the afore mentioned statement was never made, I don't know, I have not seen Ramos say it. But if he DID, then surely the writing is on the wall, the thing that annoys me most about all this is Berbs himself...He should show a bit of respect to the fans who have admired his work for the club for the last 2 seasons and say publicly that he wants to leave. Likewise, if he wanted to stay (unlikely), he should say that instead...

I agree entirely. He's
I agree entirely. He's class when he is inclined but sadly that's been less and less of late. He has been disinterested and I'd love to see a big sale abroad and purchase of another proven striker. Moreno's stats look good.

Yeah........he's clearly not
Yeah........he's clearly not interested, Sell him if a buyer comes at the right price and go for an affordable replacement. I don't know about Eto'o... form dipped and injury prone? A luxury? Could do better. Moreno's stats look good but I don't know a great deal about him.
