Football FanCast columnist Greg Symonds is disgusted at FIFA's failure to act over Manchester United's complaint and feels that clubs will now look to take full advantage.

I doubt there were many people in the football fraternity who blinked an eyelid when Real Madrid came out and touted the services of Cristiano Ronaldo. Such has become the regularity of this underhand practice; you can be forgiven in thinking that the game has finally lost all its decency and respect it once possessed.

It has become a joke and how it gets continually condoned drives me up the wall. How FIFA fail to see any breach of contract has been undertaken is disgusting in all honesty. What kind of message has this sent out? Apparently it is okay to publicly show an interest in a player, turn his head and then let it subsequently engineer a likely transfer - it's a disgrace and you now feel that the one time this whole practice could have been nipped in the bud and some sanity brought back to a game, has now finally passed.

I'm an Aston Villa fan and a disgruntled one at that, so many will dismiss me as a sour grape merchant and only piping up in light of the Gareth Barry affair. This couldn't be further from the truth and I truly believe that supporters are being blinkered with regards to the repercussions of FIFA's blind eye. If the world's governing body don't see a problem with public courting, then why should other football clubs worry now about tapping up players?

The despicable way that Rafa Benitez has gone about his business is the perfect example of what will become a common occurrence in football from now on in. Clubs that operate with respect and class will now find themselves lowering themselves to that level in order to bring in their desired players. Why get rebuffed by a football club in making an offer, when you can just make your interest public? Why go through all that hassle when you can let the unsettled player engineer the move from within? It is a grave shame the FA doesn't set a precedent in this country and penalise Liverpool in some way.

I guess this summer the Villa, along with Arsenal and Manchester United has had our hands burnt and I'm sure we won't be the last. With tapping or publicly expressing an interest is now passed as fair game, then I'm sure others will be happily following suit. It is not right or fair, but do we expect anything different from the game that is has continually been allowed to sink slowly into the mire.

It is dispicable and just
It is dispicable and just more proof how bad our game is getting. Would love to see United or Chelsea really tout Torres openly and give them a dose of there own medicine.

Arsenal have had it for
Arsenal have had it for years, Ashley Cole a classic example. There is no getting away from it and clubs have to accept it is now part and parcel of football unfortunatley/

Well said that man. It will
Well said that man. It will no doubt be seen as sour grapes but doesn't make it any less true. I think it will only be nipped in the bud once a team of sufficiently low profile attempt to do the same. Then you'll see the bullies at the FA, UEFA, FIFA come down on them like a ton of bricks and make an example of them. It's much easier to put manners on lesser clubs than to take on the might of Real Madrid or even a Liverpool. Rgds Brian

"...but do we expect
"...but do we expect anything different from the game that is has continually been allowed to sink slowly into the mire." That line, said it all man! We've (Arsenal) have had to put if with this kinda [*@!$] every single summer (Anelka, Vieira, Henry, Cesc, Ade) from Barca & Real and when we moaned, we were told to "get over it, ya gooner twat" by everyone else... so of course I've got a little smile on my face, seeing how Man Yoo are reacting at the moment... especially seeing as they are among the worst tapper ups in Europe themselves... But it is the "so called" smaller clubs that will pay in the end for FIFA's gutless display, yet again! Along with this pathetic new clause of players buying out of their contract with 2 years remaining, once they have been at a club for 3+ years!

Both Manager & Club should
Both Manager & Club should be asking the Premier League to step in. Liverpool have done this before with Middlesbrough and got away with a small fine and told not to do again - but it seems the "top 4" can get away with it. As for Man Utd & Real Madrid- does't Alex Ferguson remeber how they unsettled Dwight Yorke before setting with an under valued fee.

Looking at what Rob said,
Looking at what Rob said, Arsenal are in the top four but aren't doing it, we've had it done to us for about 10 years, whether it be chelsea, Real Madrid, Barca, Inter or Ac Milan. Liverpool are doing it now, United ave been doing it for years although last year they done things properly (Apart from Hargreaves) but 1 out of 4 aint a bad record for united. Chelsea are always doing it, and did it more than most under Jose, so I wont be at all surprised if Inter start doing it now - to chelsea but that would be funny from my point of view. I don't want to dig up the past, but when Chelsea were found guilty of tapping up they wern't punished, at all really, a few grand comeing out of some with pockets like Roman probably wasn't felt, at all!! Yet when Roma did that they got banned from all transfers for 18 months! I didn't want them to get docked points, I'd never want to see that done, even to Tottenham. But taking a few pennies aint nearly enough, it was a classical example of FIFA and what was Sepp Blatter protecting the big teams, and they are doing it with Real Madrid now. Not punishing them for what they are clearly doing. Trying to cause a rift between player and club. By getting their own players to convince Ronaldo to leave united.

Authorities hand Luton a 10
Authorities hand Luton a 10 point deduction when they couldn't prove any 'bungs or backhanders' had occured - yet they will of course let the likes of West Ham get away with fielding an illegible player for a whole season. The Premier League is truly blessed.

In answer to an earlier
In answer to an earlier post, how do you know Villa haven't registered a complaint? They may not have done so publicly but I have every reason (without possibly being able to divulge sources)to believe that they may well have done so.
