responds to news that Georgios Samaras wishes to turn his back on Manchester
City and while it will certainly be no great loss wonders who is the right man
to fire City back the higher rungs of the Premier League.
Georgios Samaras has ruled
out a return to Manchester City, telling the club that he would prefer to stay
at Celtic - but would City want him back anyway?
Samaras became the most
expensive Greek player in Europe when Stuart Pearce spent £6m on the striker in
2006, but he has since fallen out of favour at Eastlands failing to live up to
his initial promise.
It seems that he is keen to pursue a career at Celtic Park where he has become an integral part of Gordon Strachan's team.
"All I know is I won't be going back to Manchester City, that is for sure," Samaras told Sky Sports when asked about his future career.
"I don't want to go back there.
"I'm glad I'm at Celtic and I am trying to reach the European Championship in the summer."
However, City have been linked with an outrageous £20m bid for Brazilian youngster Jo, as well as confirming that they have held preliminary talks with Barcelona's Ronaldinho, it is unlikely they will be worried about Samaras' lack of commitment?
Thaksin Shinawatra could be doing Sven-Goran Eriksson a favour by cashing in on the Greek striker as City continue their search for the star striker they so crave to propel them to the higher rungs of the Premier League ladder. Sven is under ridiculous pressure at Eastlands to succeed but it would be self defeating to change the management team after a very impressive first season in charge.
It would be advisable that the ex-England boss cuts out the players that no longer wish to be in the squad in order to launch a proper challenge for European football next season.
Assuming Samaras never returns, who is the man that City need to don the sky blue shirt and fire them to victory?
