Football FanCast columnist Rob Facey applauds the Man City fans for their support of
under-fire manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Despite witnessing a lacklustre performance at Anfield
yesterday that has summed up their form since the turn of the year, the City
fans made their feelings clear to their owner and should be congratulated for
acting with such dignity.
They were not chanting for Mourinho or Scolari or any other
names that have been linked with the club, they unveiled Swedish flags and
banners and chanted his name at the final whistle.
However, their efforts could all be in vain.
"I don't think so," Eriksson told The Times when asked if he thought the supporters' showing would influence Shinawatra's decision.
"But we have one more week to go before the season is finished and I should appreciate that, until then, we just talk about football.
"The reason I accepted Manchester City was the project.
"It was also because it is a big club and because it was the Premier League, but the main reason was the project. It's a fantastic idea, to be building for something new."
What must Sven think of the English game?
Hounded out of the national team set up with a mixture of bad luck, mischievous press campaigns and a love of the ladies, he is a real character and the Premier League will be poorer without him.
What else can City fans do to keep him in the job? What are the plans for the Middlesbrough game?
The only answer, surely, is for Shinawatra to field himself as a striker as this is clearly where he is going - he wants total domination of the club and it must be a worry for everyone involved.
Are there more protests and banners or are you resigned to losing Eriksson? Will the next manager last longer than one season?
