Fancast columnist Alex Dimond watched another Robinho masterclass last night - and believes the
Brazilian illustrates how Manchester City are destined for success.
The Abu Dhabi revolution is yet to fully
take hold in the blue half of Manchester, but Brazilian striker Robinho
continues to show that, when it does, it could very well transform England's
footballing hierarchy.
The £31m man - the only high profile
signing from Manchester City's new billionaire owners, at least until January
comes - put on another great performance in City's 3-2 UEFA Cup win against
Dutch side FC Twente last night.
The 24-year-old scored a delightful goal - his seventh of the season - and threatened to add more as the game progressed. Speaking after the game, Twente manager Steve McClaren admitted the quality of Mark Hughes' side had been impressive:
"When you can call on players like Robinho and Jo, you are always going to get some magic," he said.
"It is difficult to defend for 90 minutes without giving them opportunities. There was some great finishing."
Hughes was equally enthusiastic about his team's performance:
"We had some great opportunities and Robinho could have had a hat-trick," the Welshman said.
"We have got a positive result and that is what we need to achieve in home games."
Having arrived on deadline day, Robinho has taken little time to adapt to the Premier League, with six league goals (including a hat-trick against Stoke) and some stunning performances to his credit. Having spent much of his time at Real Madrid on the periphery, the Brazilian has quickly established himself as an integral part of the Manchester City revolution.
When his transfer was revealed, many questioned the amount of money being spent on a player that was thought to have great style, but no substance. But so far, Robinho has demonstrated that he has both qualities in abundance - and has already paid back a significant chunk of his transfer fee.
Expected to create but not necessarily score - Robinho has done both, and with seeming ease.
If all of ADUG's transfer signings turn out like the Brazilian, how long will it be before Manchester City are challenging the rest of the "Big Four" for the game's biggest prizes?
