Football FanCast columnist Rob Facey looks at the lengths Blackburn are going to
in order to make sure they get their man and hopes that Ince is able to handle
the pressure of managing in the Premier League.
Blackburn Rovers
have asked the FA exactly what needs to be done in order for Paul Ince to be
given the green light to take over at Ewood Park despite not having a Pro License;
the standard coaching qualification necessary to control first team affairs in
the Premier League.
Ince, who is
currently the MK Dons boss, is attending a course in Wales after being advised
this would greatly enhance Blackburn's argument as the club's Chairman, John
Williams, and looks to replace Mark Hughes who left for Manchester City.
"I've met with Paul a couple of times and we are doing everything possible to help him get the qualifications he needs," Williams told The Guardian.
"He's one of our members and has been a manager for the last two seasons, so we'll be very supportive in whatever way we can. The Premier League rules about having the correct licenses are very clear, but there have been exceptions to it."
Indeed, but these exceptions include Glenn Roeder and Gareth Southgate, managers who struggle to be classed as mediocre.
How will Ince be different? He only took over at Macclesfield 20 months ago and should he be announced at Blackburn this will be his third job in this period as he fast tracks his way to the Premier League. Is this the way forward at Ewood Park; effectively appointing a rookie to replace Hughes?
Clearly Ince has what it takes to succeed and has worked wonders at MK Dons and Macclesfield, but should Rovers be instilling this much trust in somebody without any experience in the Championship, let alone the Premier League?
I'd love Ince to succeed, but has this job come too soon in his fledgling career?
