Arsenal fans should have more faith in their ‘professor.'
A huge amount has been written in the past few weeks
about Arsene Wenger and his reluctance to improve on his Arsenal squad. The arrivals
of Samir Nasri and Aaron Ramsey are not deemed as sufficient in the eyes of the
supporters, but I ask the question - has Wenger ever really let you down
before?
Arsene Wenger is building something special at
Arsenal and is determined not to sacrifice his principles, just to appease supporters.
He believes the youngsters he has in the squad are good enough to succeed and
who would dare back against them this season.
12 months ago the same discontentment was arising among the masses; 4th place was seemingly going to be an uphill task and yet Arsenal managed to finish 4pts off the top of table after a disastrous last few months of the season - they say you learn from mistakes and Arsene Wenger is no different; he would have seen the shortcomings and will certainly know how to address them.
One aspect that seems to go missing among supporters is that the youngsters are now a year older, possess greater experience and in some cases are ready to take their game up a desired level. The likes of Carlos Vela, Fran Merida and Alexandre Song will all be looking to become regulars within the first team squad, as will Theo Walcott; who showed signs at the end of the season that he is ready to live up to his potential.
Arsene Wenger is king of the mind games and his handling of Walcott has been superb. His open criticism of the player back in January brought the desired response from the youngster, who suddenly found his self confidence and turned in some excellent displays. By giving Theo the No.14 shirt, which no doubt wrangled with Adebayor, was a masterstroke and just the tonic the player needed in getting acceptance by his manager. Walcott simply has the attributes and abilities to be a sensation and Wenger obviously feels that it is time to give the striker greater responsibility.
Arsene Wenger has come out this morning and suggested that he only intends to improve his squad with a maximum addition of two players. It looks likely that Gareth Barry is set to be one of those signings, with the other being dependent on the future of Adebayor. The Frenchman obviously believes that he has enough, within the squad, to challenge for honours and who are we to think otherwise - another season without honours may change my view, but I believe he has earned his time.
