Football FanCast columnist Billy Pearson is fed up with the constant media intrusion at Arsenal football club and wonders where they get their motivation.

What is with the media and Arsenal at this moment? Every given day, somebody wants a pop at us, devalue us or try to unsettle the harmony of the club - it is growing increasingly annoying and you kind of wonder where they get their motivation from.

Whether it is an attack on our apparent prudency, linking star's elsewhere or simply a dig at Wenger, they simply can't get enough and it is certainly something that we as Arsenal fans aren't use to. This sort of media intrusion is more common place up Seven Sisters Rd, but it is clear they are to be spared this summer and we are there to be shot at both barrels.

So where is this all stemming from? Arsenal as a football club has always been the most professional of organisations. No stone is unturned and the club has strong values and principles that they adhere to. They conduct their business behind closed doors and don't use underhand tactics, or use the media to get what they want. They are very much a closed shop and yet Fleet St are there, crowbars in hand, just waiting to force it open.

I personally cannot put my finger on it and why we have become their latest plaything. Talking to some of the boys at the ‘Bank of Friendship' suggested it is just the English loving media wanting to see the club fail, due to its foreign policy. Is it really as simple as that, or is there something more sinister behind the move to unsettle the club? I see in the paper today that the Nasri deal is being delayed until after the Euros, no doubt the hacks are sharpening their pencils as we speak, with their interpretations of it - I for one just wish they would give us a break.

Who said there is no such thing as the beautiful game?

They need to have someone to
They need to have someone to bother and it is our turn. The specualtion does our club no favours and all it has done is turn fans against the club.

I think Gooner is right that they have succeeded in opening the club up and causing friction within.

The press are just bitter
The press are just bitter that England have failed to qualify for the Euro's and like most things that are wrong in football is that it must be our fault.

It does seem like a bit of a campaign against us but hopefully it will have a positive effect on the football club and they might drag themselves out of the dark ages and start to compete with other clubs in Europe.

I think its down to the fact
I think its down to the fact that when we play the most beautiful football in the league (TM) nothing can touch us, and they love us for it, but the press love it when somebody falls from grace and for the past few season we've done both, just as we are about to reach the top, and they will more than oblige when reporting it. People love heroes and people love to see something go wrong, its the English way. Arsenal pander to the press's every needs by being heroes and villans. Time for Arsene to by the players and give the media a championship winning article or two.

I'm afraid we are held
I'm afraid we are held responsible for Enland's failure to qualify for the euro. With the mail leading the way with their new so called survey where we come 2nd in most dives?, and 2nd again in the most unrespecful incident towards the ref? closely followed by an article saying :have we got too many foreigners in our game.

The media these days (with the odd exception like Paul Hayward)is a disgrace to its own professial history. What they dont know they make up and there is really nothing worth buying a newspaper for.Watching a few of the journalists on tv discussion programmes(even on Friday nights on Arsenal tv)is a real eye opener as so many of the new breed can hardly string two words together in an articulate manner.I'm afraid they are just another example of dumbing down standards in our present society.

Sorry I do not agree that it
Sorry I do not agree that it is our turn to be houned by the press. Am I alone in thinking this has been going on since the late 80's! When GG was manager there were always rumours on players joining (far more than any other Div 1 club) and bust ups in our dressing room, all proved unfounded of course. It is because we are "The Bank Of England" Club - the media have always been against us. I was totally fed up by it all but now I just accept it. We have had this in the media for the last 20 years+. How many times was Vieira gone etc..... I see that Steve Sedgley writes about CF4 on this website.... HOW DARE HE!!!!!!!!!!! He not worthy!

Lee didn't you watch Arsenal
Lee didn't you watch Arsenal last year? We finished 4 points off the league whilst being first for half the season or more. And we were seconds away from the CL Semi Final in a season where we sold perhaps our best ever player, made a profit using a young team and had Rosicky, RvP and Eduardo out for long periods. Not to mention our fair share of bad luck. If you consider that the dark ages and not competing I can't imagine what you think we need to do to be considered competing, but it sounds like we'd need to win every tournament with maximum points. A bit of good luck with injuries or decisions- the Liverpool penalty incidents for example and we'd have won the league and at least got to the CL semi-final. We're in a fantastic position at the moment.

You raise an interesting
You raise an interesting number of points and as usual there is not one solution. I think the following would help: New CEO to focus on the media and relationship management, the structure of the club tends to be focus on the board and other stakeholders which makes it discreet but secretative. Reasons Bias against Arsenal there seems to be a lot of Manutd, and chelsea supporters in the media, so we tend to get only passing acknowledgement. Bias against us in that we are considered too French, Wenger, TH14,...., the English dont like it. Bias against inteliigent players. how many Arsenal players would say "its a game of two halfs", "over the moon", so we dont fit the mould of players.
