Football FanCast columnist Billy Pearson feels
that the beautiful game has lost all semblance of order and fears a potential
meltdown.
You may love or loath
Arsene Wenger, but you will always respect him. A great philosopher of the
game, the ultimate visionary and when he talks, you tend to listen.
Wenger has been extremely
vocal in the past weeks and his concerns about the transfer system in general.
He feels that bottom of it is set to fall out, as players increasingly take
control of their own destiny, rather than go through the correct protocol. The powers
of a football club are diminishing and their abilities of controlling players
are becoming somewhat redundant; which is leaving many fearing a total meltdown
of the once beautiful game.
Arsene Wenger feels that big clubs, rather than addressing the problem are merely stoking it, by the underhand ways in which they are approached certain players. Wenger has blasted such practices and believes that clubs need to take greater responsibility and set an example for the rest to adhere to.
Wenger rapped: "If you don't show respect to other clubs I think that football is moving in the wrong way.
"You cannot come out like Ramon Calderon has done at Real Madrid with Manchester United and tell them you cannot stop a player leaving.
"You can destabilise any player in the world - that is irresponsible. Big clubs should set an example." (Sun)
While Wenger is undoubtedly right, it makes you wonder whether we have actually now reached a point of no return within the game. The Frenchman is one of the few figures in the game who has element of class, respect and understands that values have to remain in the game, otherwise mutiny takes over. I fear we have reached a point in football where that horse has bolted and cannot see it returning to any semblance of order.
