Who do you think Spurs will sign in the Summer

Posted by: Martyspur12, Thu 13th Mar 2008
As you may know, Juande Ramos' team has been in the press, saying that these are the players that Juande is going to buy and sell. But i want YOUR opinions, Who do you think that Spurs should buy and why? Who should Spurs sell as well?

For me the penalty shoot out
For me the penalty shoot out defeat embodied everything that is wrong with tottenham at the moment. Other than Berbatov I was never sure that the likes of Bent, Huddlestone, Zakora, Jenas, O'Hara or Chimbonda would put the ball away. The fact that some of them did just serves to raise to highlight their inconsistency. Inconsistent players performances is why we have been a midtable club for the last decade and will mean we never break into the top four. Players such as Chimbonda, Lee, Jenas, Zakora, Malbranque, Bent, Robinson etc are simply not capable of putting in above average performances week in week out. We may have deserved to win against PSV (who are a distinctly average team) but I could of guaranteed we would not have progressed much further.

I think a penalty shoot-out
I think a penalty shoot-out is a bit of a harsh way to judge "everything that is wrong with tottenham" jamo. What is it with our fans? Why is there so much moaning going on? It drives me mad! I was at WHL when we embarrassed the gooners 5-1 in the semi's and believe it or not there were STILL people sitting around me moaning.I could hardly believe my ears. It was all I could do to stop myself from telling them to shut tfu. Sure, I'm as gutted as the next [*@!$] about the result but our club has improved massively over the last few years. We've had a bit of a glitch in the league this year due to a poor start but Ramos has won us the first bit of silverware in 9 long years, getting us back into Europe for the 3rd successive season so things ARE looking good. Admittedly at the end of last season many of us allowed ourselves to believe this was going to be a 'top four finish' year but I also think deep down many doubted Big Martin Jols ability to improve upon the great work he'd already done. Stop moaning, be patient and just love the club. COYS

Im not purposely moaning im
Im not purposely moaning im just being realistic and pointing out the fact that the current squad aren't good enough on the whole. Dont get me wrong we have some excellent players in the likes of berbs, keane, king, woodgate, lennon, hutton and bale but there are also many fringe players who arent in the same league. This is why we can have the odd good game at arsenal or chelsea but play dismally against birmingham and psv at home. Hopefully ramos can create more of his own team next season but in the current state I dont think we should get too carried away.

I'm not a Spurs fan
I'm not a Spurs fan (Newcastle) but I do think you have a very good squad at the moment and with a few good buys it could be excellent. I think ramos is obviously looking for a gk to replace Robbo and I think he should look at either Scott Carson or Steekelenberger from ajax. Spurs definetely need a creative midfielder and may need to spend big to get one but these type of match winners don't come cheap. They should look at one of Van Der Vaart (Hamburg), Diego (Werder Bremen) or Modric (Spartak Moscow). All in the 15 mill + bracket but all at clubs who would look at spurs as a step up. A major problem for Spurs has been the left wing and this has to be addressed. Downing would be the obvious one to go along with spurs tradition of buying young British talent but Mcgeady from Celtic would also be a good option. That way you could play Bale in his natural left back position. Alternatively you could play Bale at Left wing and bring in a left back, Ive heard Drenthe is unsettled at Real Madrid or Shorey who's contract is expiring and if Reading go down will definetely be looking to leave. Not sure if Ramos will sell Bent considering Defoe is gone but if he does he will need replacing. In summary i personally think robbo is good enough so with some big spending on two players, creative midfielder and left winger and get rid of some of the rubbish on the fringe, Ghaly, Tiano, Gardner, Cerny, Stalteri, Chimbonda (attitude not ability) you could have an excellent squad. Just my thoughts

The thing with Spurs at the
The thing with Spurs at the moment is we have shown that with a fully fit 1st team we can beat anybody on our day. The problem comes after that. As soon as you take either Keane or Berbatov out we have a much insignificant strike partnership. Bent is good but he just needs more time to gel with Keane and Berbatov who are very clever players and have a lot of movement. I feel we need a striker close to the ability of Keane and Berbatov so if we are missing either of them or need to rest them then we aren't weakened with a replacement. My choice there would be Fredi Kanoute as he is used to the English game, has experience, has already linked up with Keane, works great under Ramos and he is great at holding the ball up. We also have a similar problem in central defence. As soon as you take out King or Woodgate we look troubled at the back (and thats a problem with both players injury records.) Dawson is good but needs established players around him, and Kaboul is still too young. Dani Jarque would be my first choice but Ben Haaim could be an alternative. Then in goal, as i think Robbo needs a new challenge at a new club to regain his confidence, i would be happy with Kameni or Almeria. That leaves the midfield which is in need of a real good sort out. Zokora is what i call a sweeper midfielder. He plays best when we need a midfielder to sit really deep and clean up when the opposition counter attack (which is very useful when we commit fullbacks forward.) He is a good squad player but if we could sign Diarra from Pompey then i would snap him up and sell Zokora as his positioning is better and he has better distribution. Maybe even Albelda. Huddlestone, O'Hara, Taarabt and Boeteng all have great potential and also make good squad players and should stay and develop. So we really need a top class defensive midfielder for the 1st team and i understand we are going back in for Tiago. He would be great and if not him then Poulsen if possible. That leaves attacking midfielders. One in the middle as Jenas is all we've got in the centre who can drive forward and score goals. Ashavin is a possible one and would be my ideal choice there. So that leaves width wherby i think we are looking at Dossena at Udinese who i think is top class and currently plays left wingback. Typically as an Italian he can defend well so with him, Bale and Gilberto with O'Hara and Malbranque also able to play on the left, we are covered on the left. Then i would go for a right midfielder with good technique and good crossing. That gives Lennon chance to continue developing as he's still young and also to rest in busy periods. Someone with experience and good set pieces would do great so my choice would be Nakamura from Celtic. My ideal signings would be Kameni, Jarque, Diarra, Tiago, Ashavin, Nakamura, Dossena and Kanoute. It would probably cost about £65m but we could make about £35m selling off players like Zokora, Chimbonda, Robbo, Tainio, Lee, Rocha, Gardener, Stalteri, Murphy and Ghaly. So in all our midfield needs most attention.

--------------Bent-----Keane-
--------------Bent-----Keane-------------- ------------------------------------------ -----Arango------Modric--------Lennon----- ------------------------------------------ -----------------Alonso------------------- ---Bale------------------------Hutton----- --------Woodgate--------King-------------- ------------------------------------------ ------------Amelia/kameni----------------- 27-4-8 Modric- signed apart from medical, in the region of 16M now all we need is 3 players for a top team IMO. Arango- left footed, high up la liga scoring table, the top midfielder i think, playing for midtable team mallorca, his transfer free will probably be about 15M. Amelia/Kameni- both good keepers, cost about 6M Alonso- liverpool hinted they wouldn't midn letting him go (i heard somewhere), would be an ideal holding mid, 15M perhaps. for these 4 players, the price would come under 50M, which could be funded by selling: 30M berbatov 4M robinson 5M chimbonda and all the deadwood 50M+ from these sales

The obvious target for Spurs
The obvious target for Spurs should be Endleman (I think thats his name recently resigned MD from Arsenal) This is the man who controlled the move to a new stadium. What a coincidence, we then announce the building of our new ground.
