The draft 2008/09 Barclays English Premiership fixtures list was out on Monday and it has to be admitted from the point of view of an Arsenal fan that the Gunners have received a fair bargain over the opening weeks of the upcoming Premiership season.
With new boys West Bromwich Albion set to visit the Emirates stadium on the 16th of August, Arsene Wenger's men can look forward to an easy three pointer with all due respect to Tony Mowbray's well-drilled side from the Midlands. The Gunners have already struck gold in the transfer market over the signing of 17-year old Welsh wizard Aaron Ramsey and there are some inevitable top-class signings still left to be completed by Mr.Wenger over the next few weeks after Euro 2008. The Arsenal coach has made it a top priority to win some silverware next season after narrowly missing out in the last edition and the opening set of Premiership fixtures have come as a solid boost for the red half of North London.
The question is will the Gunners learn from their age-old mistakes of throwing away matches which seemingly can be won in a stroll given the quality on show at the Emirates? Will the young boys mature and learn to withstand the rigours of Premiership football? Will Arsene Wenger go for experienced faces to lend solidity and calmness to the likes of Fabregas, Van Persie and Ramsey? With clashes against Fulham and Newcastle set to complete Arsenal's August committment, it would again be a surprise if the North Londoners fail to get off to a winning mentality. At the moment the attentions are all on the completion of the EURO 2008 and the start of july would lead to some frantic transfers with Arsenal set to be in the thick of things in its bid to be the champions of England again.
